International University celebrates World Antibiotics Day
Under the slogan: ‘Antibiotics… a double-edged sword’
As part of its commitment to health awareness and community responsibility, the College of Medical and Health Sciences at International Libyan University organized, yesterday morning—Sunday, November 23, 2025—an awareness event hosted in the Hopeful Libya Hall to mark World Antibiotics Day, under the slogan ‘Antibiotics… a double-edged sword.’
The event was graciously sponsored by Al-Qalaa Pharmacy, with active participation from the Preventive Health and Early Detection Administration at the Ministry of Health, highlighting the importance of partnerships between academia and national health authorities in facing contemporary health challenges.
The program featured scientific lectures, educational presentations, and awareness materials focusing on the risks of misuse of antibiotics and the importance of prudent use, in line with healthcare providers’ guidelines, alongside emphasis on the phenomenon of microbial resistance and its impact on public health.
Speakers, led by the University President and the Dean of the College of Medical and Health Sciences, stressed the importance of organizing such scientific meetings that shed light on a pharmacological issue of great importance. They also noted that choosing the slogan ‘A double-edged sword’ reflects the scientific truth that antibiotics, despite their high effectiveness in treating bacterial infections, improper use can lead to severe consequences that threaten their efficacy for future generations
